SkinPen Procedures During the Winter Months

Your skin needs special protection in the winter, when cold weather and lack of moisture can cause chapping, cracking and irritation. Winter wind and sun can cause severe sunburns and exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema.

To protect your skin from harsh cold-weather conditions:

  • Moisturize every day. Apply moisturizer right after your bath or shower for optimal absorption and to replace and replenish water and oils lost during bathing. Use lukewarm water to avoid the drying effects of hot water. Skinfuse RECLAIM Hydrating Support repairs and strengthens dry, dehydrated or compromised skin while delivering intense hydration.
  • Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. The sun’s UV rays remain strong and damaging in the winter months. Snow reflects UV rays, so be sure to wear lots of sunscreen to prevent sunburns when you’re skiing or participating in other outdoor activities. Skinfuse Shield Zinc Oxide 21% is a true physical sunblock that’s ideal for use after the SkinPen procedure when the skin’s natural barrier may be temporarily compromised.
  • Use a lip block or lipstick with SPF 15 or higher. UV rays can cause lip cancer. Men are three to 13 times more likely to develop lip cancer than women, likely due to occupation-related sun exposure and greater use of alcohol and tobacco. Be sure to apply a thick layer of lip block and reapply frequently.
  • Wear gloves to protect your hands from cold, dry air that can trigger eczema. Gloves also keep your nails, which are more brittle in the winter, and cuticles from cracking and splitting.

SkinPen Procedures in the Winter Months

The SkinPen micro-needling procedure can be safely performed in the winter when skin is drier and more sensitive. SkinPen has minimal side effects and downtime. You may experience some slight swelling, tenderness and redness/pinkness (like a mild sunburn) lasting a couple days. Most people can return to their normal activities and conceal any side effects with makeup just one day after their SkinPen procedure.

SkinPen doesn’t cause photosensitivity, an increased sensitivity or abnormal response of the skin to sunlight (UVA and UVB radiation) or artificial light. SkinPen doesn’t remove the epidermis, the skin’s outer layer that protects from damaging UV rays. Therefore, you can have a SkinPen procedure before your ski trip or any other outdoor recreational activities for which you may be exposed to the sun for extended periods. SkinPen is also appropriate in the summer months when many people spend more time outside.

SkinPen Procedures: Micro-Needling for all skin types

SkinPen can be safely used on darker skin types or during the summer months when hyperpigmentation is more likely.

Because SkinPen is a safe, minimally invasive procedure with little recovery downtime, SkinPen can be used year-round to promote healthy skin. The Skinfuse post-procedure skincare products deliver the nutrients your skin needs to optimize the results of the SkinPen micro-needling procedure.
